HOW TO APPLY FOR PASSPORT

An Indian passport is issued by the External Affairs Ministry of India to Indian citizens. It enables the citizens of India to travel internationally and also serves as proof of Indian citizenship. The CPV Division of the Ministry of External Affairs functions as the Central Passport Organization and is responsible for issuing Indian passports to all eligible Indian citizens. Indian passports are issued at 93 passport offices in India and 162 Indian diplomatic missions abroad.

Steps to be followed to apply for Indian Passport online.

A. If the applicant is living in India

  •  Register on the Passport Seva online portal. Click here. 
  •  Login to the password Seva online portal with the login ID just created in the above step.
  • Apply for background verification for the GEP.
  • Fill in the all details in the form and submit.

  • Pay and schedule appointments on the view saved/submitted application Screen to fix an appointment.

Online Payment is mandatory for booking appointments. Online payment can be made using:

  1. Credit/Debit card (MasterCard and Visa).
  2. Internet banking (State Bank of India and other major banks).
  3. UPI payment.

  • Print the application receipt containing the application reference number/ appointment number.
  • Visit the Passport Seva Kendra/ Regional Passport Office where appointment has been book along with original documents.

B. If the applicant is not living in India.

  • Register through the Global Passport Seva online portal. Click here (choose your country of residence and click on the register link on the homepage. In case your country of residence is not visible in the Global Passport Seva online portal, you will have to apply for a background check in India.
  • Login to the global Passport Seva online portal with the login ID just created in the above step.
  • Apply for background verification for the GEP.
  • Fill in the all details in the application form and submit.
  • Print application detail containing the application reference number and other details.
  • Check the Indian Embassy E Class consulate website to know about the overall background check application submission process for the global entry program. Visit the Embassy/consulate office for outsourced service providers.
